Radio KPS is "Your Place!" That means we want your voice on the speakers. Whether you want to celebrate your House, share a School Value, or tell us about your learning, here is how to do it.
In radio, time is everything! To make sure you don't get cut off, stick to these word counts:
The 5-Second Sting: 10 words or less. (Short and punchy!)
The 15-Second Promo: 30 words maximum.
The 30-Second Feature: 60 words maximum.
The 15-Second House Shout-Out (30 Words) "Go [House Name]! We are leading the way this week because we’ve been showing amazing [Value] on the playground. Keep it up, team! Radio KPS… Your Place!"
The 30-Second Learning Report (60 Words) "Hi, I’m [Name] from Room [Number]. This week, we’ve been learning all about [Topic]. The coolest part was when we [Action/Activity]. It just goes to show that at KPS, we are always aiming high and trying our best! Radio KPS… Your Place!"
The "Smiley" Voice: Believe it or not, listeners can hear a smile! If you smile while you talk, you sound friendly and energetic.
The Three-Finger Rule: Hold your microphone about three fingers away from your mouth. Too close and it "pops," too far and we can't hear your brilliance!
Punctuation is a Breath: When you see a comma, take a tiny breath. When you see a full stop, take a big breath.
Energy Check: Start strong and finish stronger. Your last line—"Radio KPS... Your Place!"—should be the most exciting part!
Write your script using the word counts above.
Practice reading it out loud with a stopwatch.

Next step:
1. Share your idea with some friends and see what they think. Do they have any suggestions to make your idea even better?
2. Think through how you could make your idea happen. What planning would you need to do? What equipment would you need? How much time? Is it a 'one-off' production or a 'series' of programmes?
3. Write down your ideas to help you begin planning to make it happen
4. See Mr Ashcroft and tell him about it.
Ideas may include a 30 minute radio show that includes a few different things, or maybe a few short 1 minute recordings that can play at various times of the day. There are endless opportunities, so give it some thought, and give it a go!
